The Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU), nestled in the lap of the Himalayas in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. This University was converted into a Central University on January 15, 2009, by an Act of Parliament, known as the Central Universities Act, 2009. The university operates three campuses: Birla Campus, Srinagar Garhwal; B. Gopal Reddy (BGR) Campus, Pauri; and Swami Ram Teerth (SRT) Campus, Badshahi Thaul, Tehri.

Tehri Garhwal is a district in Uttarakhand, India, famed for the massive Tehri Dam and the scenic New Tehri town, which serves as its headquarters. About the Department
The Department of Physics (HNBGU) has been developing as a nucleus for postgraduate and research activities since the university was established in 1973. The Physics Department actively promotes research in various areas of physics. Faculty members and research scholars are engaged in studies in Nuclear Physics, Radiological Physics, Radiation Protection, Material Science, and Condensed Matter Physics. These academic programmes prepare students for careers in teaching, research, industry, and higher education.
